The 9 Best Children’s Museums in the Country

June 13, 2022 by Rachel Raybin Leave a Comment

What are you waiting for? You know the benefits of visiting a children’s museum and you’ve got great tips to make it fun and safe. Get out there and experience the best children’s museums in the country. We’ve got the top 9 for you. Believe me, they’re so impressive you’ll wish you were a kid again.

Children’s Museum Indianapolis

Children's Museum Indianapolis

The Children’s Museum Indianapolis is the largest children’s museum in the world. With hand-on learning across all exhibits their Dinoshpere is their headlining attraction. Kids get to dig for bones and get to touch an actual T-Rex fossil.

Please Touch Museum

Please Touch Museum

The name says it all. We love the fact that children’s museums give the opportunity for your kids to touch everything. Located in Philadelphia, PA the Please Touch Museum is a two story facility that focuses on community based learning and world experiences. It’s complete with a Philly-esque neighborhood, airplanes, cars, the river and a historical train station. And for your slightly older kids an Alice in Wonderland exhibit and Fairytale Garden.

Boston Children’s Museum

Boston Children's Museum

My personal favorite is the century-old Boston Children’s Museum where “the power of play” starts kids on a learning experience to gather life skills. We love the Countdown to Kindergarten room where preschoolers can learn what being a big-kid in school will be like, much like our Butterflies In My Tummy video.

Children’s Museum of Houston

Children's Museum of Houston

The kids are in control at the Children’s Museum of Houston. Designed to get kids understanding basic economics and occupations this museum is complete with a city hall, bank, news center, vet’s office and more.

Minnesota Children’s Museum

Minnesota Children's Museum

Located in St. Paul, MN the Minnesota Children’s Museum is all about immersive experiences. The planned $28 million expansion that is partially being designed by “kid testers” will include a four-story climbing tower to the already popular pretend neighborhood complete with art on the rooftop.

Kohl Children’s Museum

 Kohl Children's Museum

Chicago is my kind of town because they have Kohl Children’s Museum. The 17 exhibits at this city museum are designed to teach empowerment and acceptance by play. Kids will discover things about themselves and others by working at the play café, talking with visitors on video phones, and caring for “newborn baby” dolls.

Port Discovery Children’s Museum

Port Discovery Children's Museum

Follow your dreams in Baltimore, MD at Port Discovery Children’s Museum. If your  child has ever wanted to be a detective, soccer player, artist or even Indiana Jones you need to be here.

Liberty Science Center

Liberty Science Center

The Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ has a variety of exhibits to educate and entertain your kids. Along with the permanent I Explore for 2- to 5-year olds, there is a revolving door of cool traveling exhibits.

Children’s Museum of Denver

Children's Museum of Denver

The recent completion of the Children’s Museum of Denver expansion added some amazing new exhibits. There is now a three-story climbing experience that’s so much more than just a wall, art studio, outdoor area, teaching kitchen and energy exhibit. Engage your creative side by designing helicopters, building trucks and crawling through anthills.
